I have been thinking back over the last 3 years of gaming. I would say the first half of the campaign was more heavily role-playing oriented and the last year or so I have tilted things more and more towards combat. I didn't even really realize it until recently. I think I tilted that way as the characters got more powerful. I was just wondering what everyone thoughts were. Did you enjoy the more role-playing with the action as more of a treat here and there or how it is now where it is about half and half. Or did you not really notice, still having fun, what the hell are you gabbing for.
It is definitely two different flavors and I just want to make sure everyone is still having fun for the last year or so of the campaign, before we switch to Cthulhu. And speaking of Cthulhu does anyone care if we do a Horror Hero adapting Cthulhu or actually using the Cthulhu rules? |

I have noticed the change in the amount of combat , but I find that happens a lot as games get more established. A lot of the early sessions tend to be a lot of people feeling each other out and uncertainty on how the fights will play out. As you move on the characters know each other better so they are less likely to have group conflicts about what to do. And players are more comfortable with their abilities so everything tend to move a little faster towards the resolution (combat) stage of the game sessions.
I will say I am glad I switched to Kim for the last year with the change in tone. I think I would have been quite bored with Mickey as he did not really have a lot in combat skills and I did not plan on building him up that way. He was much more an investigator type then a combat type. With others much more capable in that area and that aspect of the game shrinking, I think Mickey would have become an afterthought quite quickly.
I think I would like at least a little more story from time to time. I am not sure how much investigating other have done on their own, but I know at certain points I have attempted to investigate other ares that seem to have just been dead ends or forgotten along the way.
The other side of the question is are you happy with the way things are going? I know I have had campaigns get away from me at times and suddenly I am running a different game then I had wanted to. Are you still enjoying the game as much?
And as far as the Cthulu campaign goes, I am happy in whatever system you chose to use. I have never red horror hero but as long as it capable of the same general Cthulu horror feel then I am sure it will work well. |

I am happy and have fun every time we play. But, my best memories of this campaign have to do with player and character interaction. Also, Lauren, Jasvir, and Houngan are not combat heavy and I worry that your comment about Mickey is starting to apply to them. Lauren and Houngan the most, as Jasvir is starting to build in a number of support abilities. I think I may try and tilt things back at least some. Just focusing a little more on my NPC personalities and plans again would do it.
Thanks for the feedback. |

I have never tried to run Hero in a horror setting. Just read about it and I did plan in a short one. The GM let us have too many powers though so it wasn't very Cthulhu like. I would make it more low powered and desperate like Cthulhu. Though I was thinking "Why reinvent the wheel?" Cthulhu works great. Which ever system we use I am going to have to make up a whole new framework for. Horror Hero would be in 6th ed not the current 5th. So, the work in that sense would be the same. Well Hero is more complicated so I guess that is more work. Just wondering if anyone cared the system as I might start tinkering with coding soon. |
